Rebecca Webster

Highly Specialist Speech & Language Therapist

I qualified as a Speech and Language Therapist with a BSC Hons degree in Speech Pathology and Therapy in 2005 from Queen Margaret University, Edinburgh. I have undertaken further MSc modules from the University of Strathclyde in Autism studies. I have worked in the NHS since graduating in 2005, and almost 18 years on, I have as much enthusiasm and zest for this role as I did in the beginning.

During my career, I have gained experience working as a Speech and Language Therapist in a variety of settings including, schools, mainstream and within enhanced support classes, nurseries, clinics and I work with families at home. I have worked with a variety of children with communication needs, ranging from Autism, Social Communication difficulties, verbal dyspraxia, language difficulties/developmental language disorder, and phonological difficulties/disorder. I have also experience with a range of AAC (Augmentative and Alternative Communication).

For ten years and more, my clinical caseload has been supporting children and families with Social Communication difficulties and Autism. This has led on to working within an Autism Diagnostic team working with multi-disciplinary colleagues to carry out assessments.

My main motivation working with children with communication needs is to ensure they reach their maximum communication potential. Also to ensure everyone around that child understands them – understands what the child’s speech and language or communication strengths are, what areas the child still requires support, and what strategies can be put in place to support the child. When focussing on communication, working with the people who know the child best (parents/caregivers first and foremost) is crucial to ensure communication goals can be jointly set and focussed on together working alongside educators. I have experience in coaching parents and caregivers to create communication opportunities in everyday interactions and in training educators working with your child so jointly we can all support a child to reach their potential.

I am a member of the Royal College of Speech and Language therapists, and I am registered with HCPC.
