I am deeply passionate about the therapeutic power of play when working with children. Since children often communicate more easily through play than through words, I support children through this natural way of expressing themselves to help them understand and work through their feelings. This passion inspired me to complete a postgraduate MSc in Play Therapy at Queen Margaret University in 2020. I am a registered member of the British Association of Play Therapy (BAPT) and certified in Autplay Therapy, which is a play therapy approach that supports the needs of neurodivergent children.
Since qualifying, I have worked as a Play Therapist in both clinic and school settings. My approach focuses on each child as an individual, respects their unique perspective on the world, and combines various techniques to support their specific needs best. I also believe that parents and carers play a crucial role in a child’s progress, so I work closely with families through regular meetings to keep them actively involved throughout the process. I am caring, understanding, and supportive, creating a safe space where your child can feel heard and supported throughout their therapy.
After graduating from the University of Edinburgh in 1997 with a Master of Arts (Hons) degree in Psychology, I worked in an independent school for children and young people with social, emotional, and behavioural needs. In 2001, I completed my postgraduate MSc in Educational Psychology at Strathclyde University. For the past 24 years, I have worked within local authorities in Scotland as an Educational Psychologist, supporting children and young people across nursery, primary, secondary, and specialist school settings. I am registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC).
