I completed my undergraduate Bsc (Hons) degree in psychology at Glasgow University in 2010 and my Doctorate in Clinical Psychology at the University of Edinburgh in 2015. I have worked in the NHS since 2010 in a range of general adult and specialist mental health services, across three different health boards in Scotland. I have also been involved in service development, consultation, and supervision and have worked part time providing education and training in relation to psychological practice since 2019.
I have a range of experience working within Community Mental Health Teams, inpatient and acute hospital services, and residential care settings providing individual and group interventions with adults with moderate to severe mental health difficulties, physical health difficulties, and cognitive problems. I use range of psychological approaches in my practice including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Interpersonal Therapy, Compassion Focussed Therapy (CFT), and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy.
I enjoy working with people with a range of difficulties, though I have a special interest in neuropsychology and cognitive problems, physical health problems, and psychological trauma.
I believe in a truly person centred and collaborative approach to therapy that will work for you and your life. My philosophy is that, while I can offer psychological knowledge and expertise, the client is the expert in their situation and it is important to
work together to develop a shared understanding of their difficulties and how these developed (formulation) and recommend a treatment plan based on their individual goals and preferences. I understand that it can be challenging to engage in therapy and confront difficult experiences, emotions, thoughts, and behaviours and work to ensure that there is a safe space to explore this within the therapeutic relationship. My ultimate goal is that clients develop a better understanding of themselves, their needs, and the tools that can help them to live a more fulfilling life.
