Paul Kirsten

BABCP accredited Cognitive Behavioural Therapist (Individuals and Couples )

I am a BABCP‑accredited Cognitive Behavioural Therapist, and  Clinical Supervisor with experience across private practice, residential addiction treatment, and performance environments.

I hold an MSc in Psychology from Northumbria University and postgraduate CBT training from Queen Margaret University and the University of Newcastle (Praxis). My earlier training includes counselling, performance coaching, somatic approaches, and addiction work, alongside Choice Theory and Reality Therapy. I have also completed further training in CBASP (for depression and interpersonal difficulties), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (for emotional regulation), mindfulness‑based approaches, and Cognitive Behavioural Couple Therapy.

Since 2013, I have worked in private practice with adults, couples, and families, supporting a wide range of difficulties including anxiety, depression, trauma, addiction, emotional regulation, relationship issues, personality‑related presentations, and neurodiversity. My earlier roles in residential addiction services involved individual and group therapy, assessment, family support, and treatment planning.

My approach is collaborative and formulation‑led, focusing on the underlying patterns shaped by early experiences, attachment, and life events, rather than symptoms alone.

I work with couples experiencing communication difficulties, disconnection, conflict, trust issues, and the impact of stress or neurodiversity, with the aim of fostering more open and psychologically safe conversations.

I have a particular interest  in supporting adults with ADHD and  offer tailored  CBT‑informed executive  functioning coaching, supporting motivation, behaviour change, emotional regulation, and self‑belief. I have also worked in performance settings, supporting individuals with pressure, burnout, identity, confidence, and motivation. As a former professional sportsman, I bring lived experience of high‑performance environments.

Above all, I aim to create a space where people feel heard, understood, and able to speak openly without judgement.
