I am a Chartered Clinical Psychologist with over twenty-two years experience working in both the NHS and the private sector.
I graduated from the University of Edinburgh in 1991 with an M.A. (Hons) in Psychology and began my career in applied psychological research. I worked as a Research Assistant and later a Research Fellow at Heriot‑Watt University and the University of Edinburgh, completing an MPhil focused on occupational stress. Before beginning my clinical training, I coordinated a major multicentre World Health Organisation study examining quality of life, which deepened my understanding of psychological wellbeing across different contexts.
In 2007, I completed my Doctorate in Clinical Psychology at the University of Edinburgh, graduating top of my class and receiving the Birrell Prize. My doctoral research on attitudes to mental health in later life was awarded the Psige Research Prize in 2008. Since then, I’ve built a varied and fulfilling clinical career, contributed to academic peer-reviewed publications, and provided training and consultancy to health and social care professionals.
Throughout my career, I’ve supported clients with a broad range of psychological difficulties. My therapeutic approach is integrative, drawing primarily on Cognitive‑Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT), and Schema Focused Therapy (SFT). I also regularly apply the principles and techniques of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) in my clinical work. I am experienced in neuropsychological assessment and have expertise in the psychological care of adults and older adults with comorbid physical and mental health needs.
I tailor therapy to each individual, ensuring that treatment is grounded in evidence while also being sensitive to personal needs and circumstances. I remain committed to providing responsive, compassionate, and high‑quality care to every client I work with.
